Three main types are: Satureja hortensis: Winter savory, a hardy perennial with a strong flavor; Satureja montana: Summer savory, an annual or tender perennial with a milder flavor; Satureja biflora: Lemon savory, an aromatic annual or tender perennial native to Africa.
